GLIDER MILL MYTH
I have had some inquiries as to why some websites list my operation as a “glider mill.” The answer to that is that I’m not really sure. I have never met these people and they have never visited my facility. At one time, I had a large facility with many gliders that I was privileged to save from confiscation by the USDA. Had the USDA taken them, they would not have had the ability to care for them, and it is safe to assume that they would have all been euthanized. Because I had a license, a nearby facility, experience and willingness to help, the gliders were transferred to me. I went to great expense to upgrade their care immediately. Early in 2007, I downsized considerably and, once again, operate a small facility and raise only rare colored gliders.
There are some that have proclaimed themselves as “glider
experts” and have labeled some very good, caring breeders as “glider mills” or
as using “inhumane practices” without any justification or firsthand knowledge. The use of the term is mostly not objective,
but subjective and a matter of opinion.
There are also many reputable breeders that did their own research and
found that I am a caring, dedicated breeder of sugar gliders. We have an excellent relationship and I have
had the pleasure of selling and buying gliders from them on more than one
occasion. Those that know me, know that
I care deeply and that I am very trustworthy.
Please don’t believe everything that you read. People that write these accusations know
that it is very hard to overcome certain labels and there is little recourse
against those that insist on using those labels. Just because they print it, doesn’t make it true. If you have any doubts, please call me. I would love to meet you and dispel any
false impressions that you may have.
Thank you for your attention,
Susan
